The Hudson Middle School Art program offers a variety of visual and hands on experiences to students. These experiences are intended to enhance artistic ability and strengthen visual communication skills. The curriculum emphasizes content in art techniques, art history, color theory, and how the elements and principles of design are used in art.

8th grade students may choose from the following courses:


Drawing - 2D

This is a course for students who enjoy drawing or want to enhance their techniques while creating  artwork from inspiration. The teachers will guide students to reaching their greatest potential and making works of art to be proud of using a variety of techniques and drawing materials.  The subject matter will range from objects in nature (animal skulls, seed pods, plants, shells etc.), portraits, landscapes, and your own imagination! The drawing mediums include various pencils, pen and ink, charcoal, oil pastels, and a variety of materials for a collage project.  Experiences include: contour lines, value drawing, botanical, pen and ink, cartoon, charcoal, illusion of space, 2 point perspective, impressionism, and collage.

Painting and Printmaking 2D

This is a course for students who would like to have more experience with painting and printmaking.  Painting will include the use of watercolors, acrylics, and tempera paints to create compositions; and printmaking will include printing techniques and various materials. Projects and lessons will be focused on color theory, the use of acrylic to create replica or landscape paintings, watercolor surrealistic, tempera non-objective and abstract, and printmaking.

Sculpture 3D

This is a course for students who like to experiment with a variety of materials while creating 3 dimensional works of art! The sculptures made will be both BIG and Small. Brainstorming, peer collaboration, and an emphasis on process-based learning are at the heart of this hands-on class.  The materials used to create the sculptures will include paper, cardboard, Tape, ceramics, repurposed found objects and even crushed cans!

Ceramics 3D 5$ FEE

This class is SUPER hands on, the majority of time in class will be spent working with clay to create unique forms. The projects will include various hand building and glazing techniques such as pinch pots, slab boxes, coil pots, molded pots. Subject matter will include objects within nature, elements and principles of design and your imagination.  If students decide to pursue this option there will be a $5 supply fee payable through My School Bucks.
