HMS World Language
Hudson Middle School offers two world languages: German and Spanish. Learning a world language is a 21st century skill that leads to global literacy.
7th grade students will experience both languages over the course of the year, one trimester at a time.
As 8th graders, students have the opportunity to take level one of their chosen language for high school. If completed fully, students will begin their high school language career in level two.
German One: German 1 is a course designed to acquaint the student with the sounds of German and the various aspects of the German Language. Students will be introduced to German culture through reading and listening to authentic material. During the first year, emphasis will be placed on language acquisition through comprehensible input in which grammar is intertwined, but not emphasized. Learning activities include, but are not limited to, the use of “TPR” (total physical response), movies, songs, skits, games, computer technology, reading, and field trips.
Spanish I: Spanish I is a course designed to give students a solid foundation in the Spanish language and an introduction to Hispanic cultures. Vocabulary and basic grammar will be introduced. Students will have the opportunity to build their language skills in meaningful and creative ways via computer technology, games, small- and large-group activities, readings, listening activities, skits and presentations. By the end of the year, students will be able to communicate at a Novice level about their lives.
